AMOLATAR

Etam health center III in Etam town council, Amolatar district has registered a sharp increase in the cases of teenage pregnancies.

Currently, the facility register more young girls going for antenatal checkup than any other health facility in the district with 35 percent.

The in-charge of the facility Ambrose Omara blamed the rising cases of teenage pregnancies to over reluctance of parents to offer parental guidance to their daughters.

Omara says some parents have involved their daughters in doing businesses that expose them to irresponsible men who always want to take advantage of the high rate of poverty to lure them into sexual acts.

Kyoga North MP James Olobo hands over a basin and mama kit to a pregnant mother

The facility according to Omara has instituted a task force to begin sensitizing members of the public on the dangers and risks associated with early pregnancies.

Omara was on Monday speaking during a visit by the area Member of Parliament for Kyoga North constituency James Olobo Dubai.

Olobo donated mama kits, soap, and basins to expectant mothers.

In his remarks, Olobo said health facilities in Amolatar are faced with numerous challenges like power supply, an ambulance to refer patients for treatment, and clean water source to use while at the health center.

Olobo asked the district leaders to prioritize drilling boreholes in all the health centers to address the challenge of the water crisis.

Joan Adongo, a resident of Abwockwar village commended their MP for supporting them with mama kits, basins, and soap among others.

Another pregnant mother Esther Adero said such a gesture will encourage expectant mothers to seek delivery at health facilities.
