The Uganda People’s Congress Party President Jimmy James Michael Akena has attributed  the new trend of murders in Masaka to a loophole in the country’s security system that the perpetuators are taking advantage of.

At least twenty five people have been murdered in cold blood in greater Masaka by unknown people and so far  Police have confirmed that at least 70 people have so far been arrested in connection to the murders.

Addressing a weekly press conference Wednesday afternoon at the Party headquarters in Uganda House, Jimmy Akena said the party is troubled about the continued gruesome killings in Greater Masaka that has claimed over 25 innocent lives which has instilled grief and fear in the region.

The Lira City East Member of Parliament says the issue of security is a national concern that affects everyone irrespective of the region calling for proper planning and cooperation of all security agencies, leaders and community members.

He urged the police to mend and restore the mutual understanding and good working relationship with the citizenry as it will facilitate informed investigations and enable people to carry out their day-today activities in confidence.

According to Akena the party is on record of  calling upon the security forces to invest heavily in intelligence and vigilance purposely to acquire reliable information that would inform security strategies and decisions.

The Minister of state for internal affairs Gen David Muhoozi on Monday while addressing the media linked the murders to acts of terrorism intended mostly to cause fear among people but with an unpopular choice of method.

Muhoozi said the security leadership has discussed the mechanisms to use to counter the assailants and that soon they will be defeated.
