Minister Directs RDC’s To Intensify Mobilization For Covid Vaccination

NATIONAL. The vaccination campaign dubbed “operation last lap” targets people aged 18 years and above.

Dr Jane Ruth Aceng the health minister while launching the mass vaccination against Covid 19 at Lira Mayor’s Garden said unless the district task force beef up their mobilization, Lango won’t meet the 1.2 million target expected at the end of one week.

‘Our daily target should be 178,200 and if we do that we shall be able to meet our target of nearly 1.2 million after one week’ Aceng added.

According to Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero, the government has secured enough vaccines for the exercise and called upon task forces in the Lango sub-region to speed up mobilization for Covid 19 vaccination before the vaccines expire by January 2022.

She reiterated the need by Resident District Commissioners, Resident City Commissioners, Chief Administrative Officers and District Health Officers to ensure that no Covid 19 vaccine remains wasted or left to expire.

The Director-General Health services Henry Mwebasa says the Lango sub-region is the hot spot region that needs different avenues to calm the escalating spread of the virus.

Mr Sam Atul, the Mayor of Lira City articulated concerns on how the government will help the education sector cope up with the effect of Covid-19 especially the private institutions which he says take over 58% of schools in Lira.

Dr Stephen Obbo the Director of Lira Regional Referral Hospital said the Lango region largely lost mostly the elderly and persons with disabilities to COVID-19 and encouraged those in the category to turn up for the vaccination exercise.

The health ministry says they have a target to vaccinate 6.5 million people by the end of December to allow the Government to fully reopen the economy. END
