OPM Donates Relief To Vulnerable People In Kalaki.

Kalaki-The office of the Prime Minister (OPM) has donated relief items to Kalaki district.

The donation is in response to the recent floods caused by bursting of river banks, and effects of Covid 19 on the people.

The relief items include; 20 metric tons of posho, and 10 metric tons of beans which will be distributed to vulnerable groups that includes widows, the sick, the elderly and people with disabilities.

The items were received at the district headquarters on Friday 19th November by the deputy Resident District Commissioner for Kalaki Susan Akot who pledged equal distribution of the relief to the communities.

Jenifer Ayo Nalukwago the Woman Member of Parliament of Kalaki district urged the communities who will benefit to desist from the act of violence during distribution.

“The relief is from the office of the Prime Minister, me and the minister of state for Teso raised your voice following the recent flooding and effects of Covid 19, Government listened to your cry and here we have brought them, the relief should not be politicized because it is meant to support the displaced people and the vulnerable’’, Ayo said.

Residents of various Sub Counties in Kalaki district in August 2021 requested to be supported with relief after their farm produce dried up following prolonged drought that was experienced.

Following the bursting of riverbanks along Lake Kyoga, some residents were also forced out of their land along the landing sites of Bukia, Sangai Owidi and Lela in Bululu sub county, Kalaki district.

Mr. Samuel Okello the LCV of Kalaki welcomed the donation from OPM but insisted that the government should come up to support every household.

‘‘The 20 tones of posho by the OPM is not enough, I have moved around my district. Everyone needs food, even the able people. People have planted for the second season but all these have dried there is no food’’, Okello said.

Okello said as a district he has requested the chief administrative officer and production team to pile a report to government on the situation in Kalaki.

According to Okello distribution will commence next week.

Kalaki has eight sub counties and two Town Councils.
