Kioga North MP James Olobo Dubai says he doesn’t intend to run for the position of Kumam Cultural Chief (Won Ayteker- Papa me Kumam).

This, after a section of Imugenya clan members including Richard Eonyu aka Won Eswap of Orimai cell, Rose Ayipo Anna from Asuret Soroti and Jackson Eisu from Aperkira Kaberamaido among others wanted Olobo to contest for the Kumam most highest leadership position.

However, in an interview with our reporter on Thursday, Olobo, who doubles as the clan head of Imugenya says that Kumam cultural constitution does not allow anybody in active politics to contest for such a position.

He calls upon interested people to participate freely in accordance with the cultural policies.

Recently Kumam general assembly members received the Kumam constitution and unveiled the election road map.

In the constitution, Article 40 describes the prerequisite and eligibility of a person who intends to contest for the position.

In the constitution, anyone who intends to lead Kumam must be an adult, should possess an O’level academic qualification or its equivalent, should have a recognized home, must not be in active politics, and should be a true Kumam from a registered Kumam clan among other requirements.

About the election road map, Francis Ekou who is the secretary Kumam electoral commission explained that on 7th June 2022, there will be swearing-in of both members of the General assembly and Elders forum.

From 8th-17th June 2022, interested applicants will pick forms and return them to the Kumam electoral commission.

He adds that Vetting of the applicants will be conducted between 22nd to 30th June by the Elders Forum and the same organ will verify the Clan register on 30th June 2022.
