VP Alupo campaigns for NRM’s Orone in Gogonyo parliamentary by-election

Palisa – Vice President Jessica Alupo has joined other National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders as they campaign for the party candidate, Derrick Orone who is vying for the Gogonyo County parliamentary by-elections.

The seat fell vacant after the Court of Appeal ruled that the incumbent, Derrick Orone, was irregularly elected following a petition by his rival, Issa Bantalib Taligola.

The contenders include Orone, the NRM party flag bearer, and Issa Taligola (Independent).

Alupo who was accompanied by the state minister for Bunyoro Affairs Jennifer Namuyangu, Rosemary Sseninde the NRM Director Mobilisation and Members of Parliament from Teso and Karamoja sub-regions addressed two rallies in Apopong and Angolol in Gogonyo constituency asking voters to elect Orone.

The Vice President told voters to support the NRM candidate to be able to stimulate more development in Pallisa district. “ I’m here to ask you to continue a peaceful journey led by President Museveni by voting Derrick Orone”, she remarked.

Alupo told voters that Orone would work with NRM to ensure the establishment of a health centre 111 in every sub county in Gogonyo constituency and the establishment of a seed secondary school in every sub county in Gogonyo as per the NRM policy.

She also promised that government would continue establishing good roads in the area in addition to the newly constructed Tirinyi-Pallisa-Kumi road which she noted has already boosted the economic activity in the area. She appealed to all the residents to embrace parish development model so that all of them join the money economy.

Alupo noted that NRM has continuously delivered on its promises to the people of Uganda cautioning voters not to interrupt the progress being made by the NRM government.

Orone told voters at the sidelines of the campaigns that when people vote opposition leaders, they will only speak but cannot effectively reach out to the President and the line Ministries to be able to help them when there are issues.

On her side, Sseninde said that NRM will win the Gogonyo county by-election because there’s overwhelming support from the locals and urged them to turn up in big numbers.

The battle for the parliamentary seat is climaxing with the arrival of President Yoweri Museveni who is expected to campaign for the NRM candidate Derrick Orone on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.
