Amb Nyago hands over office to new Uganda’s High Commissioner to S. Africa

Pretoria – On Monday, August 15, 2022, Amb. Kintu Nyago, the Deputy High Commissioner/ Acting Head of Mission of Uganda in Pretoria handed over office to Amb. Paul Amoru, the new Head of Mission.

Amb. Kintu Nyago welcomed Amb Paul Amoru highlighting the recently signed Uganda – South African Joint Commission of Cooperation as the blue print upon the bilateral relations between the two sister countries will be further strengthened and deepened.

He thanked all staff for the support and warm working environment during his tenure as Acting Head of Mission; during which the Mission faced unprecedented challenges due to COVID 19 pandemic. Amidst the strict lockdowns, travel restrictions and other Covid19 protocols, the Mission repatriated over 100 Ugandans who were stranded in South Africa and neighboring countries.

Amb. Amoru expressed his appreciation to President Yoweri Museveni for the appointment to serve as Head of Mission. He thanked the Deputy Head of Mission for his stewardship as well as the staff for a job well done and the warm reception shown to him.

The new High Commissioner pledged to further build upon achievements of his predecessors with emphasis on Commercial/Economic Diplomacy as well as Public Diplomacy. 

He noted that the Mission will focus on increasing Trade volumes, boosting Tourism, attracting Foreign Direct Investment and Technology transfers to Uganda. 

“In this digital era, the Mission will utilize the internet, social media platforms and new information technologies to enhance its visibility to achieve diplomatic objectives.” Said Amb Amoru

He also noted that the High Commission is a home to all Ugandans in South Africa and other countries of accreditation and will continue offering services such as issuing of e-passports, processing national Identity Cards and consular visits among others.

The Head of Mission implored the staff to continue with the commitment, team spirit as well as work with passion and purpose to achieve the Mission Mandate and Vision.
