UPC candidate Eunice Apio wins Oyam North parliamentary by-election

Oyam – Dr. Eunice Apio Otuku the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) candidate was Thursday night declared winner of Oyam North constituency parliamentary by-election.

Apio garnered 15,718 votes (51.2%) beating her closest rival Samuel Engola Okello Jr (NRM) who got 15,161 votes (47.38%). Engola is the son of the former Oyam North MP Charles Okello Engola who was shot dead by his bodyguard in May 2023.

Fredrick Okello of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) got 714 votes while Daniel Okello of the National Unity Platform (NUP) managed 403 votes (1.2%)

The total number of the valid votes cast for candidates is 31,996.

The results were declared on Thursday at around 11:34 pm by Richard Onoba the Returning Officer Oyam district.
