Kampala – A 26-year-old man in Wakiso district is nursing wounds after he set himself on fire for allegedly being rejected by a married woman.
It’s alleged that Faizo Kasirye a bricklayer and resident of Kazinga, Nsumbi Zone, Kyebando Parish, Nansana municipality in Wakiso district tried to commit suicide by pouring Kerosene on himself before setting himself ablaze.
Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson says Kasirye was rescued and is currently hospitalized at Kiruddu Hospital.
Owoyesigyire says on interrogation, the man confessed that he had been pursuing a married woman one Nali for quite some time and she had refused to accept his proposal to be in a relationship with him.
“Due to frustration after seeing her yesterday at a bar with her husband, he decided to end his life by pouring kerosene on himself, and tried to commit suicide but fortunately he didn’t die,” he said.
“We managed to trace down Nali and recorded her statement, she confessed that this gentleman has been a little bit friendly towards her and also confirmed the claims but she rejected him since she was married,” added Owoyesigyire
He noted that Kasirye will be charged with attempted suicide which is a crime according to the laws of the land.
Owoyesigyire warned youths not to commit suicide when turned down by those they pursue for love.
