Immigration upgrades system in Pretoria for improved services

South Africa – Uganda High Commission in Pretoria is on a mission to redefine convenience for Ugandans living in Southern Africa and to welcome travelers seeking visas to Uganda with open arms.

In a heartening display of cooperation, Commissioner Col. GB Kambere, along with the tech-savvy team of SIO Nabatanza Bitie Hamza and IO Sebina Michael from the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC), Ministry of Internal Affairs, joined forces with the High Commissioner, Paul Amoru, and Immigration Attaché, Joy Jogole, to enhance the e-visa management and e-passport systems at the Mission.

“This isn’t just about upgrading technology; it’s about delivering hope and accessibility.” Ambassador Amoru applauded the collective efforts, expressing his gratitude for their commitment to improving services for Ugandans and visitors alike.

In a game-changing move, Amb. Amoru called upon Commissioner Kambere to prioritize portable e-passport biometric equipment. The goal is to bring consular services closer to the one million Ugandans residing and working in South Africa and five neighboring countries. The aim is to reduce the hassles of long-distance travels to the Embassy in Pretoria.

Furthermore, exciting news awaits as Uganda and South Africa stride towards a potential visa waiver for ordinary passport holders. The roadmap, following President Museveni’s state visit, is paving the way for a key meeting in October 2023. The focus is finalizing details that could lead to the dream of visa-free travel between the two countries.

According to Amoru, this isn’t just about paperwork; it’s about strengthening the bond between Uganda and South Africa. The High Commissioner was joined by dedicated Foreign Service officers, all working tirelessly to promote trade, investment, and tourism through diplomacy.

The Uganda High Commission in Pretoria remains steadfast in its commitment to providing efficient consular services and building bridges between Uganda and the nations it serves.
