Grade one magistrate court in Amolatar has granted bail to Amolatar district vice chairperson and three district councillors.

The four district executives were arrested on November 20 on allegations of criminal trespass and malicious damage.

They include Okori Okot Jaspher the district vice chairperson who represents the people of Aci sub county, Aber Grace the secretary education and community based services who represents the people of Aci and Namasale town council.

The others are Egesa Gladys the secretary works and technical services who represents the people of Awelo sub county and Onyang Sam the secretary finance and administration who represents people of Muntu sub county.

The four have since been on remand at Amolatar government prison in Amolatar district.

Through their lawyers of Phonsiano Okello and company advocates and Junior Okot Bitek, the accused argued for bail application on grounds of being law-abiding citizens who have no criminal record and are distinguished leaders with fixed places of abode.

The Amolatar grade one magistrate Kaibei Cherotich then granted them a cash bail of 800,000 shillings for each of the four councillors.

The money amounting to a tune of shs 3.2 million for the four councilors was raised within 1 hour by Amolatar district residents who had attended the court session.

State preferred charges of criminal trespass and malicious damage against the four councilors, offences they allegedly committed on November 18 at the office of the Amolatar district service commission.

The will reappear in court on January 12, 2022 for hearing of their case.
