Kaberamaido – Several villages in Kaberamaido district are set to benefit from a clean borehole water project being implemented by Lodoi foundation, an NGO working in Uganda to support communities to access clean water.

This is in collaboration with the district woman Member of Parliament Jane Awichi.

Over 10 boreholes have been drilled by the NGO in the first and second phases in various villages across the district.

In Alwa sub county, residents have welcomed the project saying it’s timely since they have for years been struggling to access clean water.

The village chairperson of Awidyang in Alwa sub county Mr. Francis Olobo said over 200 households now have a reason to smile after years of suffering without clean water sources.

Mr. Francis Elobu a resident of Awidyang village, Ongolangor Parish, Alwa sub county Kaberamaido district is excited about the project which he says will have a great impact on the locals.

While speaking to our reporter, Mrs. Maggret Igeto another resident said she used to trek a long distance in search for clean water.

‘‘3 years ago, we used to trek for a long distance to fetch water but now I have the borehole just in front of my house’’, said Igeto in an interview.

Jane Awichi, the Kaberamaido district woman Member of Parliament pledged more support for the people in the district.

‘‘This is part of several programmes lined up for Kaberamaido to improve access to clean water. I hope the community will greatly benefit from the improved access to clean water project once it is completed.” said Awichi.

However, some villages in Kaberamaido continue to struggle to access clean water. A case in point is Ararak Village in Alwa Sub county where the entire village of over 1,000 residents survives on one borehole that is nearing a crumbling point.
