Dokolo – She stares in space, lost in agony, devastated by a strange disease that is eating her entire foot away.

This is the tale of 24 year old Lucky Ejang, whose happiness and means to livelihood have been shattered by a huge chronic wound now unable to be treated by her poor family.

Her fate and survival looks hopeless unless government or a good samaritan comes to her rescue and offers her the much needed specialised medical treatment.

Ejang’s story came to the limelight on Friday when the LBS Newsday team visited her home in A⁩ Okii-pokere village, Alyecjuk parish, Agwata Sub county, Dokolo North constituency, Dokolo district to gather information about the young mother, whose luck and hold to life seem to be running out.

Ejang, an orphan and single mother of two developed a swelling on her left foot, 22 years ago that later turned into a big irritating wound. She shared her ordeal with LBS Newsday.

‘‘I started developing this swelling on my foot in 2005. When the swelling grew big, we sought medical attention from Amac health center IV. We thought the swelling would stop but unfortunately after a few weeks, it developed all over again. In 2011, I got an operation from Moroto clinic in the then Lira district but still it didn’t heal.” She narrated.

An emotional and frail Ejang who broke in tears during the interview said her grandmother has sold all their property to raise money for her medical bills.

‘‘My grandmother who is taking care of me has done all she can to get me back to normal life but in vain. We hardly eat food, we are stressed, my two children need education but I can’t provide since this swelling has left me bedridden.” She added.

Ejang is now appealing to government, non-governmental organizations, politicians and well wishers to come to her rescue.

It is against this background that Ejang’s family sought media intervention to be able to raise funds for her medical attention.
