The Uganda People’s Congress Party has asked government to strategically work on a comprehensive plan that will guarantee full reopening of schools to enable children resume studies.

This week the Ministry of Education and sports had a consultative meeting with different education stakeholders in which they released a plan for a phased reopening of schools and higher institution of learning.

Addressing a media conference at Uganda House Wednesday, the Party President Jimmy James Michael Akena says much as the party applauds government for the initiative of phased reopening, it should consider  crafting a plan for a full reopening.

Akena also punched holes on the ongoing online education saying it do not favor all students whether in urban or rural areas because majority of them cannot afford to acquire the learning equipment such as smart phones, radios, televisions and computers.

On the current vaccination program, he asked government to double its efforts in ensuring effective and efficient vaccination of teachers across the country that will help to minimize the risks of spreading the virus.

UPC also urged the ministry of Education to retrain teachers as a way of equipping them to properly and effectively execute the revised curriculum which the Ministry intends to do before school reopening.

When schools reopen Akena appealed to the school administrators are urged not to exploit parents by charging unfair school fees as the Covid 19 lockdown has economically affected all parties.
