Anger as Barlela parish is eliminated from PDM beneficiary list

By Stephine Opio Ongora

Dokolo- A section of leaders from Barlela parish, Bata Sub County in Dokolo district on Monday stormed the office of the district chairperson and Chief Administrative Officer demanding to know why their Parish is not on the list of those set to benefit from the Parish Development Model (PDM).

Led by Geoffrey Edweu, the area LC2 chairperson, the leaders wanted an explanation about ceasing Barlela parish and transferring villages to neighboring parishes.

Edweu says the transfer of the villages to some parts of Bata town council without their knowledge after it was demarcated years ago is what angered them.

He adds that their resolutions at the 25th May 2022 meeting held at Agweng village that rejected district plans of ceasing Barlela among others still stands.

Policarp Ocen, the Barlela Parish development committee chairperson and James Onyok the LC1 Chairperson Bralela are worried that their parish might miss the PDM money due to behaviors of some individuals whom they termed as “double minded politicians”.

These say over 17 enterprises were formed to benefit from PDM in their parish but they don’t have where to submit their applications after their parish chief was chased from the PDM meeting last Saturday by the district authorities.

When contacted about the matter, Isa Mbooge, the Chief Administrative Officer Dokolo told our reporter that he is working together with the ministry of local government to resolve the issue of Barlela parish since it was missing from the database.

Mboge promised to handle the matter before transferring funds to all SACCOs’ accounts this week.
